Below are suggestions for vehicle & personal gear while in the backcountry. This list is by no means complete, but they are the MINIMUM suggested items to consider when out on adventure.

* Valid Driver’s License and Proof of Insurance.

Vehicle - Armor – Skid plates, rock rails, etc.

* Lift

* Lockers

* Winch – rated 8000lb or higher (rating generally based on 2.5 times your vehicle’s weight)

Radios

* CB or Digital

Trash bags - Pack out your garbage and pick-up any garbage you see on the trail.

Camera – Ultra high speed $2000+ cameras are generally discouraged as they can break in the backcountry. Less expensive digital cameras and disposals are encouraged. Bring extra film/disks/batteries with you.

Navigation & Communication

* GPS

* Maps – Road & TOPO

* Compass

* CB and/or Digital Radios

* Cell Phone

Tools

* Maglite

* Various tools – full socket/wrench sets in standard and metric, screwdrivers, etc.

* Hydraulic floor jack

    That’s a lot of stuff to be packing in my YJ!

  2. Ha! Yep, it’s quite a bit but when you’re overlanding and traveling for an extended period of time, you’ve got to be prepared for self-sufficiency particularly when traveling abroad where resources are limited.

    And keep in mind, this is just a general list of items needed and isn’t comprehensive of everything you should consider. Just the basics are listed. ;)
