In 1924, George Mallory and Sandy Irvine made an ill-fated attempt to summit Mt. Everest, nearly 30 years before it was officially recognized as being summited by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Then, nearly 80 years later, an experienced team of Mountaineers lead by Conrad Anker went back to Everest to find George Mallory’s body. What they found, and the events that unfolded afterwards, is a story for the ages in mountaineering. (more…)
In 2009, Jeep announced that their MILSPEC J8 vehicle would be made available as a “kit” through American Expedition Vehicles. The Jeep J8 is a military-spec 4-door Wrangler designed to handle the needs of heavy payloads and significant terrain challenges, and is a proven choice for an overland build. In 1953, Mark A. Smith organized the first-ever Jeep Jamboree across the Sierra Nevada Mountains by way of the old Rubicon Trail.
