It’s the Journey, Not the Destination

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

It turns out the Mud Springs Trail in Arizona has confounded many of us Phoenician four-wheelers over the years. Back in the day before our first Jeep, George and I attempted Mud Springs in our ’99 Dodge Ram 1500 4×4, and on another outing we borrowed our neighbor’s ATV. On both occasions we missed reaching the Holy Grail at the end of the trail: an alleged “Miner’s Shack.” We tried it again when we were newbie’s in Number 7, and again we only got to Mud Springs Hill. In fact, the first time we actually made it to the Miner’s Shack was on foot and had hiked in from a different trailhead. (more…)

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

The Jeep Gladiator was introduced in 1962 and based on the SJ Jeep Wagoneer. Trails of Geronimo – A Jeep Expedition

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

When you hear the word “Geronimo,” what is the first thing that comes to your mind? For some it might be the memory of childhood fun with running and jumping into the pool in the classic “cannonball” position and yelling “Geronimo.” But, if you are a history buff and a fan of classic westerns then no doubt your first thought will be of the Apache War Chief, Geronimo. (more…)

So, I Had a Talk With My Jeep – Project TJ

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

When Brooke told me she was pregnant, I considered this crazy thought for a long, stressful 24 hours: sell the TJ, cash out. Put the backseat in, give it a good wax job, and prepare to send it off with a college girl who likes it since it’s red and convertible. The horror. For a last hurrah I’d have to tell her, “Be sure to change the snorkel fluid once every 3000 miles.” (more…)

Rough and Ready for a Dangerous Job

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Think driving a Jeep for a living sounds like fun? Harvey MacKay says, “Find something you love to do and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” Just between you and me, I think driving a Jeep on dirt roads sounds like a great job description. Toss in some exercise – such as hiking, or a little running maybe – and we’re on the way to really cool fringe benefits.  That’s a day at the office for a Border Patrol agent . . .sort of.

By the way, the United States Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection are hiring. (more…)
